SA Reunited

I sat here the other day and decided to browse above site. I got roped into joining and going searching for some friends that I haven't seen since school days. It is rather nice to just send a note to the person and wait for a response. One of the 4 people I contacted so far, must have been waiting for the mail, because I got a reply so quickly that my head was spinning. I sent the message just before I left the office and got a sms on my phone that said person had responded before I even got home. I only live 5 minutes away from the office. I also sent a message to someone I worked with who has moved to London and low and behold, when I got in this morning, there was a message waiting for me from her. Now at least, I know how to contact her and I know that she is doing well. Still waiting for responses from the other two. I lost contact with my best friend at school, because she didn't like a guy I was dating at the time and he didn't like her. She isn't listed in the register, but her brother is. I have sent him a message also and hopefully he will be able to help me get in touch with her.

The scary thing is that our 20 year reunion will be taking place next year. I still get pre-exam jitters when it gets to this time of the year. I can't believe that almost 20 years have gone by since I last wore my school uniform. Well not actually, I wore it to a friend's 40th birthday party about 3 years ago, but that's another story!!!

The page you are searching for....!!!

I have been on a course for the last 3 days. When I got back to work, I couldn't get onto the Internet and realized that I have suffered serious withdrawels. I have missed my blog friends. When I couldn't open any of the websites, I started feeling panicky and immediately ran(!!!!) to our Techie. He calmly stated that the internet must be down. Not happy with the explanation, I went to another office and saw that everyone there was happily surfing away. So, back to the techie I go.

ME: "please explain why other people can access the internet, but not me?"

Techie: "maybe they got in before you" (duh!!!)

ME: "It looks like my settings on my laptop isn't correct because it keeps saying that the page I am searching for is not available"

Techie: "Oh, now I remember, maybe it is because we took the firewall out on Monday and put another box in"

ME: "don't you think that my settings are wrong then. Am I not trying to connect through the box you took out"

Techie: ...fiddles on the laptop and says "I will send the bill later" and he calmly walks out my office, holding head high, another job well done!!!

Where would we be without our Techies???

So, here I am, back in the land of word verifications and lol. I am now going to read the posts that I missed, so I will hopefully get back on track soon.

How good a friend are you?

I have often asked myself this question. I know all these wonderful people and when times are tough, it is amazing to see how they all pull together and get you through whatever the crisis is. We have recently taken in a youngster(24). I call him cocaine cowboy for obvious reasons. Now he knows exactly how I feel about his addiction. The problem is that he had a girlfriend who was in matric and fell pregnant last year. She had a little boy, but their relationship is a on/off kind of thing. I know that she shares his addiction and was even doing it when she was pregnant. I know that the only way he can stay clean is if he stays with us. He won't bring the stuff into my house. I saw what he looked like after a week of not sniffing, but then he went to visit her for a weekend. When things went wrong there again, which only took two days, he came back to us. In the couple of days that he was there, the two of them stole her mothers' phone and sold it to sniff. Needless to say, we have had endless problems with her mother about this guy. Last night or should I say early hours of this morning, (01h15) my doorbell rang. WTF??? Mr B refused to get up thinking that it was her. Unfortunately whoever was at the gate, refused to give up and continued ringing the bell. Thinking about the two little ones who obviously heard the doorbell, I got up and found that it was the police. I was so shocked to find them walking towards my front door at that time of the night, that I asked them if they were stupid. If Mr B wasn't in bed, I would probably have had a heart attack at the sight of the cops. It wasn't just one or two for that matter, but 5 of them. I asked them what they wanted and they were looking for said youngster. They just wanted to talk to him. BAH HA - 5 policeman and they just "want to talk to him". Fortunately for him, he wasn't there. By this time Mr B was standing next to me at the front door, dressed in only his jocks - wonder what the police thought. Seeing that they didn't have a warrant, we didn't let them into the house and they grudgingly left on the promise that we will deliver said delinquent to them this morning. Apparently the ex-girlfriend has laid an assault charge against him. Needless to say Mr B, visibly the moer in(excuse the French) phoned the complainant and woke their whole house up. She pleaded not guilty. I wonder if the fact that our delinquent is now seeing one of her friends has something to do with this charge?

I have to raise the question now - do I allow this guy to stay in our house? Do I continue trying to help him come clean? Do I throw him to the wolves? The problem is that his own parents have given up on him. He is trying to do the right thing for his son. I know that that little baby is the only reason why he is trying so hard to come clean. The mother of the baby is not helping at all. She won't allow him to see the baby, but she phones every 30 minutes about the baby needing milk or nappies or whatever else she can think of. The problem is that I feel so sorry for this little baby. He is already an addict and he is only 3 months old. What will become of him?

Rugby Fever

Tomorrow is the big day. Will the All Blacks use the new Haka on the Ausies or will they save that one only for the Springboks? Maybe they have worked out new Haka's for all their opponents. Imagine that. We all know that the Tri-nations crown is now resting on the last game of the tournament. In my heart, I feel very sorry for the Springboks. They actually had it in the bag, but they didn't see the damn hole in the bottom of the bag. All credit to the AB's for not giving up. That is the true spirit of competitive sport. Never give up. Never say I won, until you've crossed the finish line or scored the try. Makes me think of that old cliche - it aint over till the fat lady sings. I truly hope the fat lady hasn't sung for the Bokke. Needles to say, rugby fever is running high. The anticipation is such that you can almost feel it in the air. All I can say, is may the outcome favor the Bokke tomorrow.
